

We appreciate that Canada, as part of the G7, has joined in “strongly condemned the killing of civilians, indiscriminate shelling and forced displacement of the residents of Tigray and Eritrean refugees” and emphasized that “the G7 members stand ready to support investigations into human rights abuses. However, urgent action is needed as the population of Tigray continues to suffer and, now, widespread famine looms. We thus ask the Canadian civil society to join us in:

1 Demanding the immediate verified withdrawal of the Eritrean and Amhara forces from the Tigray region.
2 Speaking against the massacres, ethnic cleansing, mass rapes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and starvation of being committed by the forces of Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Amhara in Tigray
3 Requesting Canada to provide asylum opportunities for displaced Tigrayans, especially orphaned and traumatized children similar to its exemplary record in dealing with refugees, welcoming 10,000 Somalis in 1993, and 67,938 Syrians between November 2015 and April 2019.
