The international community including the UK have called on the Ethiopian and Eritrean governments to stop civilian killings, gender-based violence, and other human rights abuses as well as atrocities; for the withdrawal of Eritrean and Amhara forces; the facilitation of full, unhindered access for humanitarian actors. However, both governments have ignored these calls. Consequently, the US has imposed visa restrictions on the two countries’ civilian and military officials. Additionally, the US imposed restrictions on wide ranging economic and security assistance to Ethiopia. Following this, US International Development Finance Corporation have decided not to support the project. CDC’s financing will only embolden the Ethiopian regime and help continue the suffering of millions.
